a happy update
Sunday, October 1st, 2017 09:52 amI have not been on Dreamwidth for some time now. And I can attest that I have been placed in a very busy (sometimes chaotic) 2-3 months since my last post. But since the last time I wrote, a lot of things (mostly good) happened:
1. We were in Costa Rica (San Jose, in particular) for the IL Fast Track conference and it was a blast. The country itself was spectacular. We were there for about 10 days - 2 days of IL conference and a Global Portable income seminar. The hotel where the conference was held - Real Intercontinental San Jose - was out of the world fabulous and surpassed our expectations. Loved their restaurants, the staff, and the Costa Rican hospitality the fact they really tried to make our stay enjoyable. It was literally next door to one of CR's biggest and newest mall, which was great because we walked there a few times once the conference ended.
The conference itself was good and very informative. The organizer IL, did a wonderful job of communicating what to expect after retirement and provided tips and strategies how to fund your retirement savings further post-retirement. More on this on the next few posts.
2. The Global Income portable seminar, which we took prior to the conference, was an eye-opener. It showed us how to be able to create a global income post-retirement to not tap into your capital once you are retired but still be able to live and pay your basic expenses. (hint: being in cheaper countries with lower cost of living but still have a comfortable middle income lifestyle and excellent health care that contributes to a better quality of life was key). We liked it so much that we signed up for it and both of us are now in the middle of the course. I'm currently working with a coach every week on this process. This income can start at anytime now, even as a part-time extra.
3. Work has been on some days, exhausting, fast and yet busy. And it is now almost my 3rd month as a full-time employee. Not sure if I will be evaluated at the end of the 90 days but I'm also not waiting for Jamie or John to figure out what my next steps are in this department. I think I am doing a phenomenal job and the receiving crew seemed to have no beef with me. I am also grateful for their cooperation in getting the work done this week when Jamie was out and John still being on vacation. As well as Rene and his crew on Line Haul, they had always been tremendous crew to work with and always had stepped in when I needed help on my side. So I think this will be a good place for me for a while. In the meantime I am also creating my own masterpiece in this department and where I want to be in the next few weeks/months too. This will be a great game to play.
4. My PHR credential was re-certified after the 1 year suspension and I'm now re-certified until 2019. Hurray! (even though it was backdated from 2016) It was a touch and go the last couple of weeks when I found out I only have up until the end of September to submit my forms. Once I reached out to HRCI and they explained the kind of HR experience they were looking for, it was easy to write in to demonstrate how the actions contributed to the overall HR knowledge. So that was a good sign, I take it as a blessing. I will not wait the last minute to submit my re-certification materials again. In fact, my commitment is to start more on the professional development and create some content mastery to show leadership skills. In the 6 core areas of re-certification there are some areas I would like to try out and explore in the next 3 years and I am putting in a plan in writing to start on those areas.
Onward until my next post!
